Pushing Back the Book Review Assignment

Hello My World II Class,

I hope that your long weekend is going well.  I have had questions about this assignment from a few students, and my answer is to not worry about it.  I am going to push back the due dates about a week, and I didn't realize until after your class on Thursday that

1) the presentations were supposed to start right at the beginning of next week, and:
2) that there is not to be any major homework or projects over the weekend.

Hopefully, you have been chipping away at your book and recording the major argument.  We'll jump-start the assignment again this week coming up.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or call me.

Thanks so much, and I'll see you bright and early tomorrow,

Sam

Noche Triste Primary Sources

Hello all,

I realize that I did not give back everyone's homework from this week to them.  I apologize for that.  Some of you may have handed it in on the back of their primary sources, so I've uploaded them to the class Dropbox file.

You can find the link in the lower right hand side of the page.

Thanks, and let me know if you're having any problem.  I'll be able to check my email throughout the day.

Sam

Factors and Factories

Hello all,

We were talking about a "factory" in class today, and I explained that it was a large trading post, usually where a "factor" lived.  Thinking in terms of trade diasporas, the factor was a node of the diaspora, a foreign agent living and trading away from her/his homeland.

Here's one of El Mina "The Mine," located in the Kongo.  It's shown here under Dutch control (it was originally established by the Portuguese).

Enjoy the camping trip!
